Uhm Jung-hwa (Korean: 엄정화 ; built-in Baronial 17, 1969)[1] is a South Korean singer, actress and dancer. Uhm is considered to exist one of the most influential women in the Korean entertainment industry, with many female artists recognizing her as a office model.[2]
Uhm began her career in 1989 every bit a chorus member for the broadcasting visitor MBC. Uhm was born in Jecheon, Due north Chungcheong, Republic of korea. She is the 2d kid of Yoo Gyeong-sook and Uhm Jin-ok, a music teacher who died in a motorcycle accident when she was half dozen. Uhm Jung-hwa officially debuted as a singer in 1993 with her first studio album Sorrowful Secret. In the summer of 2008, she released her starting time EP titled D.I.S.C.O with assist from her longtime friend Yang Hyun-suk of YG Entertainment. The lead single "D.I.South.C.O" featured T.O.P, a member from the popular boy band Big Blindside. The EP was one of the best-selling albums past a female person artist in 2008, and was further promoted by the digital single "D.I.S.C.O Office 2" which was a remix version of "D.I.Due south.C.O" and featured Grand-Dragon, the leader of Big Bang.

Uhm was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but fully recovered afterward surgery in May 2010.[vi] Uhm said she felt a trivial afraid leading up to the surgery, but rather than being discouraged by the pain she was experiencing, she fabricated up her mind to dedicate herself to helping others by inspiring them. "I want to utilize my talent and influence in a meaningful fashion," she said.[vii]
